The Maldivian tourism industry has been making headlines recently on all fronts. Whether it is regarding all the awards the Maldives has won as a destination or the efforts being put in to tap into new tourist markets.

The latest news on the tourism front is yet another highlight to add to this year's achievements as the Tourism Minister has announced that the tourist arrival rates for this year are expected to hit the million mark by this Friday.

This is a significant achievement after the tourism industry suffered as a result of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as any negative effects from border closures during the pandemic.

The Maldives' efforts to expand the tourism industry appear to be paying off, as the Maldives welcomed 32,087 tourists during the first week of August 2022. With an estimated 1.6 million arrivals by the end of the year, this total is close to one of the highest recorded numbers of tourist arrivals, which was 1.7 million in 2019.
