Velana International Airport (VIA) is continuing efforts to attract more airlines to its new Terminal 1. As part of this, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) announced on 15 August 2025 that the airport is preparing to welcome BEOND Airlines.
According to MACL’s official X account (formerly Twitter), the team successfully conducted an Advanced Visual Docking Guidance System (A-VDGS) trial using BEOND’s dark-liveried Airbus A319.
“The aim was to test ADB Safegate’s A-VDGS system for its ability to detect aircraft with dark liveries. Shoutout to all our teams for making the trial a success.
The first BEOND flight officially arrived at the new terminal on 16 August 2025. The aircraft was welcomed with a traditional water salute to mark the occasion. Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted by Minister at the President’s Office for Presidential Affairs, Ali Arif, along with MACL’s CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
To commemorate the inaugural flight, MACL presented Beond with a commemorative plaque, followed by inspiring remarks by BEOND Airline's General Manager, Mr. Ibrahim Akhthar, highlighting the significance of this moment.
