The government aims to increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives by 2027, strengthen tourism revenue and extend its benefits to as many people as possible, Minister of Finance and Government Enterprises Hassan Zareer said.
Presenting the estimated state budget for the year 2027 to the Parliament, the Minister said that 2027 has been declared as the 'Visit Maldives Year' to achieve this objective.
The Minister said that while about 2.28 million tourists are expected to visit the Maldives regularly next year, the special events of 'Visit Maldives Year' will bring in another two hundred thousand tourists and reach a total target of 2.5 million tourists.
Noting that this goal can only be achieved through joint efforts between the government and tourism industry partners, the minister said he would further strengthen his efforts to promote the Maldives in the global market in collaboration with the Visit Maldives Corporation, airlines and tourism service providers. In addition, special priority will be given to increasing the number of tourists arriving in the Maldives and the number of flights to the Maldices during the off-peak season, he said.
