Total arrivals estimated to reach 1.6 million this year

As the Maldives celebrates 50th anniversary of tourism, total arrivals have reached 1.2 million as at 05th October 2022, which is a 38 percent growth compared to the same period last year. The daily average arrival has reached 4,369 guests per day, with February 2022 recording the highest daily average of 5,322 guests.

Total arrivals recorded in 2021 as at end of the year was at 1.3 million, with an average duration of stay of 8.7 days, compared to 6.3 days in 2019 - before the COVID-19 pandemic. It is estimated that total arrivals by the end of 2022 will reach 1.6 million, with the possibility of even reaching the 2019 level of 1.7 million.

The top source market in 2022 has been India, with 14 percent market share, while it was in China in 2019. Despite the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russia has remained in the second place with 12 percent market share, with more than 146 thousand Russian tourists visiting Maldives as at 05th October 2022.

United Kingdon and Germany retains the third and fourth place respectively. Unlike in 2019, countries like Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland have climbed to the top 10 list.

Total operational resorts is currently at 164, with 40,053 beds, while there are 867 hotels and guesthouses with 15,576 operational beds, and 154 safari vessels with 2,864 beds. The total operational bed capacity is at 58,493.
