Ramadan has finally arrived! As one of the holidays that Muslims all around the world look forward to, Ramadan has a way of bringing together the community, especially when it comes to breaking the fast or iftar.
This is a time when friends, families, neighbours and community members come together to support each other and share a meal together. Ramadan is one of the only few months out of the year when communities host big meals and feasts that are enjoyed together regardless of political beliefs or mindsets, as Ramadan is a time of forgiveness and sharing. This holy month is also a time when people open up their homes and their hearts as donations play a major role throughout the month in order to support and facilitate meals and other necessities for families and communities who are in need.
With the togetherness of the community and the drive for giving back to the community, Ooredoo Maldives has started hosting community Iftars for this year Ramadan. This iftar program is under the company’s ‘Hadhiya’ initiative, which heavily implies that the company is aimed to give back to the community this Ramadan.

The first community iftar of 2023 was hosted by Ooredoo Maldives on Friday 24th March, where 200 people joined together to break their fast. This campaign is also supported by Mission for Migrant Workers Maldives (MMWM), which is a Non-profit Organisation in the Maldives that works towards getting migrant workers equal rights and opportunities within the country.
As migrant workers are one of the communities who might struggle, especially during Ramadan as they are away from home, such community programs ensure a healthy meal and the feeling of belonging and togetherness within the communities.
In addition to the community iftar, Ooredoo has also facilitated an easy method to donate through the m-faisaa application under their ‘gift’ theme. In this month of forgiveness and giving back, having an easy method to donate and help the communities in need was much needed, and without a doubt useful for many who are keen to donate but unsure on how to do it.
