Since the inauguration ceremony held to mark the opening of the new terminal at the Velana International Airport (VIA), the airport has continued to mark successful milestones in making connectivity better for travellers.
Giving the latest updates on new completions at the airport, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that phase one of the 3,200-metre Taxiway Charlie rebuild project has reached completion as of 13 August 2025. The project, which started on 10 April 2025, will contribute to the enhancement of the airside operations of VIA upon its completion.
Once fully completed, the upgraded Taxiway Charlie will allow for smoother aircraft movements, reduced taxi times, and greater operational efficiency, enabling VIA to handle more flights during peak hours. This will not only strengthen the Maldives’ position as a major aviation hub in the Indian Ocean but also directly support the tourism industry by improving connectivity for international visitors and inter-island travel.
