Qatar Airways moves operations to Terminal 1

Qatar Airways has moved its operations to Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport, marking the 37th airline to operate at the airport.

On 22 December 2025, the Maldives Airports Company Ltd. (MACL) announced that Qatar Airways had moved its operations to Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport.

This marks the 37th airline to operate at the airport. The inaugural flight was marked by a ceremonial water salute, and arriving passengers were warmly welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Qatar Airways Vice President Network Station Mr Paul Lucian, the CEO & MD of MACL, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, DMD Mujthaba Latheef, and MACL ExCo members.

The airlines commencement of operations at Terminal 1, Velana International Airport, was officially marked with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.
