On 01 January 2026, the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) announced that the test flight for night operations at Sh. Funadhoo Airport was successfully conducted. With this, MACL marked a significant enhancement of the regional air service capacity and operational efficiency.
In the announcement, MACL noted that this milestone is a key initiative under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to strengthen domestic aviation infrastructure and improve connectivity across the Maldives.
In a post on X, celebrating this momentous occasion, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mr Mohamed Ameen, stated that this was a truly remarkable day for the Maldives' aviation, as all airports across the Maldives were now equipped with night-landing facilities.
