Velana International Airport named Indian Ocean’s leading Airport 2026
This year’s recognition marks the 13th time VIA has received the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport.

Velana International Airport (VIA), operated by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), has been named Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport 2026 at the World Travel Awards, marking another significant achievement for the Maldives’ main international gateway.
The award was presented at the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held at CROSSROADS Maldives. The CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, attended the ceremony and received the award on behalf of Velana International Airport.
This year’s recognition marks the 13th time VIA has received the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport. The achievement comes at a time of continued growth and transformation at the airport, as MACL continues to strengthen its services, facilities and overall passenger experience.
VIA was selected from a strong field of nominees from across the region, including Ivato International Airport, Madagascar; Roland Garros Airport, Réunion; Seychelles International Airport; and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Mauritius.
