Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will join a high-level Maldives delegation visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg from 17 to 21 August 2026, with a strong focus on attracting more Russian travellers to the Maldives and improving air connectivity between the two countries.

The delegation will include representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Visit Maldives Corporation, MACL, Maldivian, Resort Life Travel, In Tour Maldives and other tourism industry stakeholders. Russia is one of the Maldives’ most important tourism markets, and the visit will focus on building on the strong demand that already exists for travel to the Maldives.

During the visit, the delegation will meet government institutions, airlines, tour operators and travel trade partners in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Discussions will look at how the Maldives can attract more visitors from Russia, strengthen its presence in the market and work more closely with partners who sell and promote the destination. Air connectivity will also be a major part of the visit.

MACL will meet existing and potential airline partners to discuss increasing frequencies and capacity on current services, improving year-round connectivity and exploring opportunities for new direct routes to Velana International Airport. Meetings with tour operators and travel companies will also help identify where demand is growing and how additional airline capacity can be supported through stronger destination promotion and travel packages.

The Russia visit follows a high-level Maldives delegation visit to China in July 2026, where the delegation met airlines, tour operators, travel companies and other industry partners in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu. The China visit helped strengthen direct engagement with one of the Maldives’ key tourism markets. Discussions covered destination promotion, travel packages for the Chinese market, closer cooperation with travel trade partners and opportunities to improve air connectivity between China and the Maldives.

The visits to China and Russia are part of ongoing efforts to grow tourist arrivals from key international markets while ensuring that air connectivity develops alongside that demand. For MACL, this means working directly with airlines and tourism partners to bring more services to Velana International Airport and make it easier for travellers from these markets to reach the Maldives.
