Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has opened a newly developed passenger rest and service area at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport (VIA), adding new facilities aimed at improving comfort and convenience for travellers.
Located on the first floor of Terminal 1, the new facility provides approximately 750 square metres of additional seating space. The area features different seating arrangements to accommodate passengers during their time at the airport, particularly as passenger numbers continue to grow.
The facility also includes a dedicated 136-square-metre children’s play area. The space features multi-level play platforms, woven mesh tunnels, rope and ring climbing structures, and a ball pit, providing children with an area to play while travelling through the terminal.
Financial services have also been incorporated into the new passenger area through a Bank of Maldives (BML) outlet. The facility offers foreign exchange services and U.S. dollar issuance services for Maldivian customers, allowing passengers to access essential banking services within the airport.
The opening forms part of MACL’s continued development of Terminal 1 and its efforts to expand passenger facilities at VIA. The new additions are intended to provide a more comfortable and convenient airport experience for a wider range of travellers, including families and passengers requiring access to financial services.
