Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that both Velana International Airport (VIA) and the Maamahi Executive Lounge have been shortlisted for the prestigious World Travel Awards 2026, earning recognition in two leading regional categories.
This marks the 13th time that Velana International Airport has been nominated for the title of Indian Ocean's Leading Airport, having won the title 12 different times in the past.
In addition to this, the airports Maamahi Executive Lounge has also been nominated for the title of Indian Ocean's Leading Airport Lounge 2026, recognising its dedication to providing travellers with a premium, comfortable and world-class airport lounge experience.
The nominations highlight the Maldives’ continued efforts to strengthen its position as a leading destination in the Indian Ocean, while recognising the role of its aviation infrastructure in supporting the country’s tourism industry. The 2026 World Travel Awards will provide another opportunity for Maldives-based airport facilities to gain international recognition for their services and contribution to the travel experience.
