The tourism industry appears to be doing better than ever since 2023 started and the Maldivian tourism industry just broke a new daily arrival record a few days ago.
On February 11th, 2023, the Ministry of Tourism announced that the Maldives welcomed 8,028 tourists, setting a new record of tourist arrivals in a single day since the borders re-opened in 2020.
The tourism industry in the country has slowly but surely been flourishing since the re-opening of borders in 2020. As one of the few countries that commenced to welcome back visitors soon after the pandemic, the Maldives figured out how to make the industry work during the pandemic and even better following the pandemic.
With new resort openings and more international flights starting their operations to the Maldives, the country’s tourism industry has been flourishing.
2022 marked a great year for the industry with the Maldives making its spot yet again as a successful tourist destination, and 2023 is looking extremely promising so far with increasing tourist arrival rates into the month of February as well.
So far into 2023, Russia and India are still holding the top spots for arrivals with China visitor rates slowly climbing their way up marking 8th place soon after direct flights were hosted between China and the Maldives.
