On 27 December 2025, the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) officially welcomed HiSky’s inaugural flight to Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport with a ceremonial water salute.
Passengers were warmly welcomed by the Group General Manager of Maldives Inflight Catering, Mr. Ali Shakir; the Deputy Manager of Voyages Maldives, Mr. Ignaz Mansoor; representatives from HiSky; and MACL Exco Members.
HiSky is a privately owned company that has operated since 2021, offering regular and charter passenger flights from Romania and the Republic of Moldova to more than 20 domestic and international destinations. The company operates flights from its three bases in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Chisinau.

In addition to this, MACL also welcomed Aeroflot at Terminal 1, holding a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark the official opening of Aeroflot’s check-in counters at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport. Aeroflot is the 39th airline to commence operations at Terminal 1.
