Urbanco - the new identity of HDC

On April 1st, 2023, in an event to celebrate its 22-year anniversary, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) rebranded the company to Urbanco.

This rebranding comes after the company has decided to expand their business to build and provide a more aspiring future for the people of the Maldives, rather than just fixing the housing issues in the Maldives, where the company was initially formed. When Urbanco, formerly known as HDC came into existence in 2001, the sole task of the company was to plan and build the reclaimed land of Hulhumale’. 

Over the years, Urbanco has developed Hulhumale phase I, working on the development of Hulhumale phase II and is in the planning stage for the upcoming projects in Hulhumale phase III. In addition to the development of the city, Urbanco has also taken it upon itself to make Hulhumale’ an easily livable and walkable city for the citizens of the Maldives by bringing in more sustainable ways of life and a touch of greenery to the city.

Since the development of Hulhumale’, most citizens have come to prefer living in this area compared to Male’ city. 

With the new branding, Urbanco is largely motivated to take its business beyond housing development.

“As the leading urban development corporation in the Maldives, we are crafting the whole nation, inspiring, and taking our knowledge across the islands of the country, completely transforming the Maldives economy,” - Company announced during the ceremony. 

Along with this rebranding, Urbanco has also announced that they will be expanding beyond the development of Hulhumale’ as they look forward to work with the Atoll councils to bring better development to islands of the Maldives. 

In addition to the rebranding, Urbanco also launched a mobile app during their ceremony. This app was built to make it easier to pay bills, and permits and book spaces without all the hassle, as Urbanco brings in this user-friendly app to make everything possible under one roof.
