As part of his four day visit to Baa Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the Baa Goidhoo Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions today to discuss the island’s pressing development priorities.

During the meeting, the council members highlighted the need to upgrade the island's health centre, concerns around the location of the Fenaka office, the importance of upgrading the island's electricity grid, as well as the urgency of providing electricity to the island’s tourism zone, while also creating opportunities for eco-tourism.  The council also raised issues regarding the lack of space at Goidhoo School, the stalled construction of the staff room, and defects in the school’s electrical system. Additionally, the Council also sought updates on the status of the multipurpose hall and sports arena projects.

Following the meeting, President Dr Muizzu held a meeting with the residents of the island, reaffirming his commitment to delivering on all presidential pledges made to the people of Goidhoo. Providing updates on key development projects for the island, the President noted that the tender for the harbour development project will be issued this month, with construction expected to commence within the year, while coastal protection works are scheduled to begin next year. He also assured the community that any necessary projects to resolve issues with the powerhouse and enhance its facilities are planned to begin this year.
