President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the Baa Thulhaadhoo Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions today to discuss the island’s key development priorities as part of his four-day visit to Baa Atoll.
During the meeting, council members highlighted the need to designate an island where residents could travel for picnics and urged swift action to resolve the matter. They also pressed for the acceleration of two major projects: housing construction for local residents and the completion of the island’s court building. Additional concerns included the need for spare parts for the island’s power plant and the establishment of a handball court.
Following the meeting with the council members, President Dr Muizzu met with the islanders. During this time, the President confirmed the development of 100 new housing units for the island. He reiterated that, in allocating plots and flats, the Government will follow the principles and standards established by the island council, ensuring decisions reflect the realities and priorities of the local community.
He further assured that the Government will facilitate the privatisation of 119 reclaimed plots in Thulhaadhoo, as requested by residents.
Addressing the Thulhaadhoo Airport project inaugurated earlier today, President Dr Muizzu pledged that work on the airport would begin without delay and continue without interruption.
Highlighting Thulhaadhoo as the second-highest priority island in Baa Atoll’s regional development strategy, the President announced plans to strengthen the island’s health sector, including the introduction of specialist medical services at the health centre, with dedicated provision for women and children.
