On 08 August 2025, the Bank of Maldives (BML) inaugurated a sensory and vocational classroom for Special Education Needs (SEN) students at Veymandoo School in Thaa Atoll. The initiative was implemented by the Veymandoo Youth Association, which received funding through the Bank’s community support program last year.
The new classroom is designed to support the development of students’ abilities, foster essential social interaction skills, and enhance their educational experience. Veymandoo School aims to provide SEN students with practical life skills such as cooking and sewing, helping them gain independence and confidence in their daily lives.
I would like to thank the school for its assistance and cooperation in building this classroom. On behalf of myself and the people of Veymandoo, I would like to thank the members of this association and all those who helped this project in various ways, and the contractor for completing the project so thoroughly and so quickly.
This marks the third SEN classroom opened by BML this year, following similar projects at Salahuddin School and Hiriya School in Hulhumale’, which together have improved the learning environment for over 200 students.
Over the past five years, BML has also donated educational equipment to 40 schools across the Maldives, reflecting the Bank’s ongoing commitment to enhancing learning opportunities and supporting inclusive education nationwide.
