The designation was made by the President following a request to this effect by the residents of Vashafaru.

On 05 March 2026, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu designated HA. Kandaalifinolhu as part of Vashafaru in North Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
The amendment was made pursuant to the authority accorded to the President under 134 (a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010).
The designation follows a request to this effect by the residents of Vashafaru.
Additionally, on the same day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also designated R. Un'gulu as part of R. Un’goofaaru, in accordance with his presidential pledge.
The amendment was made pursuant to the authority accorded to the President under Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010).
With this change formalised through a Presidential Decree, the Presidential Decree No. 2/2025, which specifies the inhabited islands of the Maldives, has now been amended and republished in the Government Gazette.
