The Maldives is currently undergoing a transitional period, following the recent Presidential race, which was succeeded by the PPM/PNC candidate Dr Mohamed Muizzu. While this is an exciting period for the winning political party and those who have high hopes for the coming Government to make the country a better place for the citizens of the country, this time period is also one that has a higher chance of cases of corruption taking place.

It appears that these allegations surrounding corruption cases have already started as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives has stated that the organisation is receiving several cases of alleged corruption. The commission also stated that a majority of these cases revolve around accusations towards Government offices and state-owned organisations destroying paper-work, which is a crime as these paperwork play an important role when it comes to ACC looking into different cases. In addition to these accusations, the commission has confirmed that the organisation itself believes that such cases are taking place in the Maldives during this transitional period.

In addition to cases of destroying paperwork, ACC has also stated that they believe that some organisations are making changes to important paperwork, which is also deemed a crime. One such case that has recently taken up media interest is a video of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM) destroying a large number of paperwork. Following the video going viral on different media platforms, FSM released a statement stating that the documents being destroyed in the now viral videos are old documents.

An official from the company also stated that these videos were published by an ex-employee, Ahmed Anees in order to make the company look bad. Just before these videos were published, ACC had also requested the police as well as the Privatization and Corporitization Board (PCB) to bring a stop to the illegal matter of Government offices and Government-owned companies destroying paperwork.
