Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) has taken a significant step towards boosting tourism and economic development in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll by awarding a contract for the construction of a city hotel in the tourism zone adjacent to Fares-Maathodaa Airport. The contract was granted to Silver Land Hotels, marking a pivotal development for the region.
Under the agreement which was formalized with the signatures of RACL Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen and Project Management Head Ibrahim Mohamed from Silver Land Hotels a 100-room city hotel on the vacant land near the airport is set to be developed within the next three months. This project is valued at MVR 20 million (USD 1.2 million) as confirmed by Mubeen.
The construction and operation of the new hotel are expected to significantly impact the local economy by creating job opportunities for approximately 200 residents. With this, RACL is not only moving towards boosting tourism in the local communities but producing more job opportunities within the industry for locals as well
Furthermore, managing director Mubeen also emphasised that the company currently operates seven airports and plans to develop similar city hotels on vacant lands at these locations. This showcases that the development of the city hotel in the Fares-Maathodaa Airport area is not just a standalone project but part of a larger vision to enhance the region's appeal to tourists.
