As Ramadan draws near, households across the Maldives are gearing up for the holy month by engaging in the customary annual clean-up and stocking up on essential items. However, for many low-income families, the financial burden of acquiring staple foods can be daunting. In a bid to alleviate this pressure and provide support to those in need, the President of the Maldives has announced a significant initiative.

In a generous move aimed at assisting households during Ramadan, the President has pledged to distribute essential food items, namely rice and flour, to families across Male’ City. Each household is set to receive a substantial allocation of 10 kilograms of rice and 10 kilograms of flour for the duration of the holy month.

The distribution process has been carefully planned to ensure accessibility for all citizens. Those wishing to collect their allocated staple foods are required to present their electricity meter number along with a valid form of identification, such as a national ID card, passport, or driver's license. This streamlined approach aims to facilitate a smooth and efficient distribution process while ensuring accountability and fairness.

The official commencement of the staple food distribution program is scheduled to begin on Saturday, 9th March 2024, just ahead of the commencement of Ramadan. This timely initiative not only provides tangible assistance to households in need but also embodies the spirit of solidarity and compassion that is synonymous with the holy month of Ramadan.

As families prepare to embark on a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, the provision of essential food items serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and mutual aid. Through such initiatives, the Maldives demonstrates its commitment to upholding the values of compassion, generosity, and solidarity, particularly during times of need.

Those interested in collecting staple food in Male’ are can do so from 10:00 to 16:00 and 20:30 to 23:00 hrs before Ramadan. Additionally, during the holy month of Ramadan, this initiative will continue and citizens can collect the staple foods from 09:30 to 13:00 hrs and 21:00 to 23:00 hrs.
