The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), together with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, has begun the development of fitness and recreation centres in three islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll: Finey, Naivaadhoo, and Hanimaadhoo.

The groundbreaking ceremony in Finey was officiated by MACL’s CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Raafiu, and the President of Hdh. Finey Council, Adhnan Abdulla. In Naivaadhoo, the ceremony was marked with the participation of Council President Ali Rasheed Mohamed, while in Hanimaadhoo, Council President Abdul Sattar Hassan joined the event alongside MACL and ministry officials.

By collaborating closely with the Ministry of Sports, MACL aims to provide local communities with modern facilities that encourage active lifestyles, promote youth engagement, and strengthen social bonds.

The development of these centres also supports the government’s pledge to expand access to quality sports and recreational opportunities across the country. Once completed, the centres are expected to contribute significantly to community development, creating spaces that inspire healthier living and foster national progress in sports and recreation.
