Kulhudhuffushi City marked a significant step forward in infrastructure development on 26 August 2025 with the launch of two key projects — the construction of a new passenger terminal at Kulhudhuffushi Airport and the commencement of the third phase of the city’s road modernisation programme.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the airport terminal was attended by the CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, as well as Members of Parliament Mohamed Dawood and Farhath Mohamed. According to MACL, the new terminal is part of a nationwide airport upgrade initiative, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to enhance regional connectivity and improve air travel facilities.
On the same day, the third phase of the Kulhudhuffushi Road Development Project was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Hassan Rasheed. The project, awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), aims to further modernise the city’s road network and is scheduled for completion within 730 days.
Together, these initiatives highlight the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening infrastructure across the Maldives, with Kulhudhuffushi City emerging as a key regional hub.
