President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a 50-unit housing project will be launched in M. Madifushi in 2026.

He made the announcement while addressing the Madifushi community during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

Emphasising that home ownership remains the Government’s top priority, the President said the project would be implemented either as a designated housing scheme in one location or through the construction of units on individual plots, depending on residents’ preferences.

Alongside this announcement, several new initiatives were inaugurated on the island today, including the groundbreaking of a new school building, a Fitness and Recreation Centre, an extension to the Health Centre, and the commencement of road development to modern standards.

The President assured the community that each of these projects would move forward in the near future. He also noted that the ongoing ice plant project would be completed very soon and stated that the island would receive a police vehicle before the end of this year.

During the meeting, Th. Ufuriyaa and Th. Kolhufushi were formally incorporated under Th. Madifushi's jurisdiction. The Government Gazette published the revised administrative chart reflecting this change on 18 September.
