In a dramatic shift that marks the end of an era, Elon Musk has officially completed the rebranding of Twitter as "X". The start of these changes, however, started a while back as Musk officially replaced its iconic blue bird logo with a stark black and white "X". This rebranding effort is part of Musk’s broader vision to transform the social media platform since acquiring it for $44 billion in October 2022.
The rebranding was first hinted at by Musk in a series of late-night tweets, where he announced that the bird logo would be replaced and all Twitter branding would be gradually phased out. Musk explained that the new "X" logo symbolizes the imperfections and uniqueness within us all, marking a departure from the familiar Twitter brand towards a new identity aimed at encompassing a broader range of functionalities. Musk’s ambitious plans for "X" include transforming the platform into a more versatile app, often described as the "everything app", inspired by the Chinese app WeChat. This app could potentially integrate various services such as messaging, social networking, and even financial transactions, expanding far beyond Twitter’s original scope. Although Musk had broad plans for the app, the new changes were not entirely embraced by the public users, who have grown to love the little blue bird app, still struggling to call it by its rebranded name.
Despite his efforts to make the website new and upcoming, Twitter has faced challenges, such as a decline in ad revenue and user discontent, which Musk hopes to address with this bold rebranding strategy.
