Recipients of land plots from Male area

The Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya schemes also received an overwhelming amount of support with a total of 35,800 people applying for these two housing projects.

Over the years, one thing that Maldivian Governments have become known for is housing projects. With the scarcity of land in the Greater Male’ Area and the ever-increasing need for more and more apartments to accommodate the increasing population, the need for housing projects becomes a pressing matter during every single administration as of late.

The first ever housing project dates back to the Presidency of Maumoon Abdul Qayoom when the Sinamale’ flats were developed and since then, people look forward to the announcement of housing projects during every new administration.

As for this administration, as we near the elections, there was talk of a housing project by the name ‘Gedhoruveriya’ and ‘Binveriya’, but even when the announcement was made for the reconstruction of Sinamale’ flats, people knew little to nothing about the developments in the housing project of this administration.

The announcement for the housing scheme Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya by the current administration was made in July 2022 as the Government announced that they will be allocating 5,000 land plots for the Binveriya scheme and 4,000 housing units will be constructed under the Gedhoruveriya scheme. And while people have been waiting for almost a year after the announcement of these two schemes, there seems to finally be some development as the Government has recently announced that the beneficiaries of these housing projects will be announced soon.

Just like any other housing scheme in the Maldives, the Gedhoruveriya and Binveriya schemes also received an overwhelming amount of support with a total of 35,800 people applying for these two housing projects. In order to accommodate a large number of people, the Government announced that under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, 4000 flats in 32 towers will be constructed which will come with three-room apartments and two-room apartments. With the aim to complete at least eight towers of the housing project by the end of this year, applicants are finally one step closer to finding out whether they got approved for this housing project or not.

Along with the announcement of recipients which will be made by the end of June, just like any other housing project, the Government will also open up the opportunity for applicants to submit complaint forms.
