Government signs contracts to kickstart health sector developments for 2023

The Government has officially kickstarted its PSIP plans for the health sector for 2023 with the signing of an MVR 501 million project with Duplex Pvt Ltd.

According to the PSIP report highlights, the Government plans for the health sector had been increasing over the past few years and the goal for 2023 is to improve the overall health sector while also developing hospitals in local islands. Under this plan, the Government aims to develop the existing hospitals in the Maldives while also focusing on constructing tertiary-level hospitals in two local islands: Kulhudhuhfushi, and G.Dh Thinadhoo.

In addition to the construction of these two hospitals, the Government also revealed their plans to improve the services provided in the hospitals of L.Gan, G.Dh Thinadhoo and R.Ungoofaru to tertiary level hospitals that can provide citizens with top-notch services.

The Government has officially kickstarted its PSIP plans for the health sector for 2023 with the signing of an MVR 501 million project with Duplex Pvt Ltd. Under this contract, the Government aims to develop 30-bed hospitals on three different local islands of the Maldives.

In addition to this, the company SAS-E was constracted to develop the hospitals in Lhaviyani Atoll as well as Noonu Atoll. With the project's deadline set for 18 months, the project was officially handed over to SAS-E on the 5th of January 2023. The funding for the Lhaviyani Atoll project stands at MVR 185,810,605 and the Noonu Atoll hospital development is estimated to cost a total of MVR 193,895,234.

Lastly, on January 16, 2023, the Government contracted Duplex Pvt Ltd for the development of a third hospital in Haa Alif Atoll, with the project totalling MVR 123, 303, 792.

With both projects aimed to be completed within a span of 18 months, according to the plan so far, the Maldivian health sector would be seeing major improvements by the start of 2024 as new and improved hospitals will be constructed to facilitate the citizens. With these improvements, the number of people who have no choice but to travel to the capital city of Male’ for medical reasons might finally decrease as tertiary level hospitals are constructed in some major Atolls of the Maldives.
