During a recent visit to Thaa Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed the administration's commitment to advancing the health sector in Thaa Atoll, Thimarafushi.

Acknowledging the delays in the island’s hospital development project, President Dr Muizzu pledged to resolve the issue, assuring that once the hospital is complete, residents of the island will have access to a fully equipped facility. In the meantime, he said the Administration would upgrade the existing health centre to a level-four facility within three months, citing the urgent need for improved healthcare on the island.

In a move to fulfil the President’s commitment, on 26 September 2025, the construction of a 30-bed hospital on the island was officially inaugurated. The project, which was awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), is part of the administration's efforts to make healthcare more accessible across the islands of the Maldives.

In addition to this advancement, the President also addressed several key issues, assuring that the island’s harbour would be expanded in the future and that road development projects would also continue to boost the island's progress.

Moreover, the President also announced that electricity, water, and sanitation networks would be connected to the housing units already completed, with the aim of making them habitable by next Ramadan.

The President also announced that the down payment for government housing units would be reduced to MVR 10,000, alongside further reductions in monthly rent. In addition, a project for 100 new housing units is planned for inclusion in the 2026 budget.
