The Managing Director of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Hussain Fahmy, has denied allegations circulating on social media.
The allegations, made by an anonymous account on X, claimed that the State-owned company purchased an old vessel for MVR 17 million, later resulting in an additional MVR 1.8 million being spent on its refurbishment. The account further claimed that the vessel currently has a value of MVR 900,000, and that the board of the company also resigned due to this transaction.
Responding to these allegations, the Managing Director described these rumours as completely false and misleading, reiterating that no such purchases have been made by the company since 2023 and that, to his knowledge, no board approval or discussions have been had with any party regarding such a matter.
Further addressing the allegations, Mr Fahmy also noted that the resignation of a Board Director of the company has no connection to the allegations, and that the resignation was due to personal reasons.
The Managing Director stated that the company remains committed to transparency, accountability, and due process, and therefore, such serious allegations should not be presented as facts without credible evidence.
