Male' Water and Sewerage Company Pvt. Ltd. (MWSC) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure to establish a comprehensive water supply and sewerage system in Maafushi, along with the installation of a dedicated sewerage network in the island’s newly reclaimed area.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, while MWSC’s Managing Director, Abdul Matheen Mohamed, signed on behalf of the company.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Member of Parliament for the Maafushi Constituency, Hussain Riza Adam, along with senior officials from the Ministry and MWSC. The project is expected to enhance public health, environmental sustainability, and overall service reliability for residents and businesses on the island.
Maafushi, one of the Maldives’ most prominent local tourism islands, has experienced significant expansion in recent years, particularly with ongoing land reclamation. The development of essential utility infrastructure is therefore considered critical to sustaining this growth and ensuring long-term resilience.
