The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has entered into a service agreement with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to strengthen inter-agency coordination and improve the efficiency of cargo operations related to the importation of plants and animals at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The agreement was officially signed on 12 July 2025 and aims to enhance operational standards and ensure better service delivery in the handling of agricultural and animal consignments. According to the Ministry, this is the first in a series of service agreements MACL plans to establish with various government agencies operating at VIA.
The initiative is part of MACL’s broader strategy to upgrade service quality and align airport operations with international best practices. These improvements are being undertaken in preparation for the opening of the new terminal at VIA.
The collaboration is expected to streamline procedures, support regulatory compliance, and facilitate safer and more efficient import processes for biological cargo entering the country.
