The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially opened the new Islamic Library, located on the third floor of the Mosque of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The opening ceremony, held on July 12, 2025, was inaugurated by the Minister of Dhivehi Language and Culture, Adam Naseer Ibrahim. The event was also attended by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, along with senior officials from the ministry.
The newly opened library is designed to make Islamic and religious knowledge more accessible to the public. The space includes dedicated reading stations, computers, and comfortable seating areas with sofas and tables to accommodate readers. The library houses a collection of over 15,000 books on Islam and related subjects, providing a valuable resource for scholars, students, and the general public.
The establishment of the Islamic Library reflects a broader vision of the government to increase public access to religious education and scholarly resources. During the ceremony, Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem called on local scholars to donate their own published works to further enrich the library’s collection.
This initiative also fulfils one of the key commitments made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to create more educational and community spaces dedicated to the study of Islam across the Maldives.
