The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has released its latest tourism statistics, providing an overview of visitor arrivals, key source markets, and industry performance indicators for the Maldives as of April 2026.
According to the ministry, the Maldives welcomed 152,861 international visitors by the end of April 2026. This represents a decline compared to the same period in 2025, when tourist arrivals reached 202,214. As a result, tourist arrivals recorded a 24.4 percent decrease year-on-year.
The statistics show that the majority of visitors entered the country through Velana International Airport, which recorded 147,628 arrivals. Meanwhile, 271 visitors arrived through Gan International Airport and 469 through Hanimaadhoo International Airport. In addition, 3,457 passengers arrived in the Maldives via seaports during the period.
The report also highlighted a decline in the number of beds in operation. By the end of April 2026, a total of 996,851 beds were in operation, compared to 1,142,705 beds during the same period last year. This reflects a 12.8 percent decrease year-on-year.
Occupancy rates also recorded a decline. As of April 2026, the occupancy rate stood at 48.9 percent, down from 59.8 percent during the corresponding period in 2025. This marks an 18.3 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
Despite the decline observed across several key indicators, the average duration of stay increased during the period. Visitors stayed an average of 7.1 days in April 2026, compared to 6.9 days in April 2025, representing a 2.5 percent increase.
China remained the Maldives' largest source market, accounting for 115,589 arrivals by the end of April 2026. Russia ranked second, followed by the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, India, Switzerland, France, the United States, and Australia, rounding out the top ten source markets for tourist arrivals during the period.
