Island Aviation Services Ltd (IASL) held a signing ceremony today for the Design and Consultancy services for the extension of the Passenger Terminal Building at Dharavandhoo Airport (DRV).
The consultancy agreement was signed between Island Aviation Services Ltd and Epoch Associates Pvt. Ltd. The consultancy scope covers improvements to the existing terminal as well as the design of a new terminal extension, with the objective of improving passenger flow, operational functionality, and the overall airport experience.
The consultancy services will address key capacity and layout requirements, including expanded arrival facilities, improved check-in and baggage handling areas, reconfigured interior spaces, refreshed internal finishes, and the introduction of additional passenger amenities. The terminal extension design will also include a passenger lounge, additional departure gates, operational and support spaces, baby-care facilities, outdoor areas, and landscaping.
Dharavandhoo Airport operates throughout the day and serves as a key gateway to Baa Atoll, supporting both tourism-related travel and daily local movement. The airport experiences consistent passenger activity due to the presence of resorts, guesthouses, and nearby marine attractions, alongside regular travel by locals.
Maldivian operates daily scheduled flights to Dharavandhoo from Velana International Airport, with connectivity to Maafaru International Airport and other domestic destinations. With sustained passenger activity and increasing operational demands, the terminal extension is required to enhance capacity, improve passenger comfort, and support efficient airport operations.
The project aligns with the Government’s broader direction to improve airport facilities and support travel expansion, while reflecting Island Aviation Services Ltd’s continued focus on meeting growing passenger and operational demand.
