On 17 December 2025, the Maldives Airports Company (MACL) conducted an operational trial at the Terminal 1 Seaplane Concourse as part of ongoing preparations to enhance seaplane operations at Velana International Airport.
The operational trial was carried out to evaluate and validate end-to-end passenger handling processes and overall operational workflows within the new facility. The exercise aimed to ensure that systems, procedures, and coordination among stakeholders function smoothly prior to full-scale operations.
The trial was conducted in collaboration with Maldivian and Flyme seaplane services, allowing airline personnel to familiarize themselves with the operational flow of the Terminal 1 Seaplane Concourse. Key areas assessed during the trial included passenger movement, check-in and boarding procedures, baggage handling, and coordination between airport and airline operations.
The Terminal 1 Seaplane Concourse is expected to play a vital role in supporting the Maldives’ tourism sector by improving connectivity between the international airport and resort destinations, while enhancing passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
