Velana International Airport (VIA) has recorded a new milestone in its air cargo operations, exporting 114 tonnes of transshipment cargo in a single day.
The achievement, announced by Velana Airport, marks the highest daily volume of transshipment cargo handled for export through the airport, reflecting continued growth in its cargo operations.
According to the airport, transshipment cargo volumes have continued to increase throughout 2026. In the first half of the year alone, total transhipment cargo handled at VIA surpassed 7,000 tonnes.
The airport stated that the latest record reinforces Velana International Airport's growing role as a regional transshipment hub, supporting the movement of cargo through the Maldives and strengthening the country's air freight capabilities.
The increase in transshipment volumes comes as the airport continues to expand its cargo operations to meet growing demand, contributing to improved connectivity and efficiency in regional air freight services.
This latest milestone highlights the continued development of Velana International Airport as an important gateway for both passenger and cargo transport in the region.
