Velana International Airport (VIA) has executed a series of extensive operational trials throughout the month of July as the date for the new terminal's opening draws near.

With the official inauguration date set for 26 July 2025, the airport's team conducted operational trials, assessing the entire passenger journey to ensure that all systems at the new terminal meet global standards of efficiency and comfort. In addition to the trials, the airport also introduced a segment called #AskVelana, so that passengers and curious citizens can ask questions related to the airport, especially as travel will look a bit different for passengers starting 26 July.

With the trials already having assessed everything from baggage to check-in, boarding, as well as arrivals, the Chairman of the Airlines Operators Committee and Airport Manager for Etihad Airways has stated that the new terminal is set to deliver world-class services that airlines have long awaited.

Airlines have long awaited world-class service standards in the Maldives. The New Terminal will deliver this level of service, and airlines are extremely pleased with this development.
