The highly anticipated date for the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) is coming close to an end, and some major concerns have started rising among airport representatives. These concerns are mainly focused on unverified information circulating across social media, speculating that airport representatives will no longer be a part of the team at the new terminal.
Amid these growing concerns, MACL has now confirmed that rather than eliminating the important role that airport representatives play in connecting guests to their destinations via the airport, MACL will be providing notable upgrades to airport representatives in the new terminal.
Talking to Maldives Business Review, an industry source revealed that the current situation at VIA forces representatives to work in an 'oven-like environment. With part of the expansion project coming to an end, representatives will finally have more space to provide their services, and arriving passengers will no longer face congestion due to a lack of space in the airport.
With the upgrades in the new facility, departing passengers will also see an ease in travel as they can directly proceed to their check-in counters, which is a practice followed in advanced airports across the globe.
As the expansion project addresses the space and efficiency challenges to meet the growing tourist arrival market of the Maldives, the dedicated premium facilities for airport representatives will ultimately make the overall airport experience better, not just for the guests but for the staff as well.
