Velana International Airport (VIA) has welcomed the 18th airline to commence operations at Terminal 1. In the efforts to continue the expansion of the terminal's operations in preparation for the coming peak season, which starts in December, the airport announced the move of Air India to Terminal 1.
The arrival of Air India at Terminal 1 was welcomed with a ceremonial water salute, marking the addition of another airline operating from Terminal 1.
In addition to announcing the 18th airline to terminal 1, the airport also announced a recorded total of 14,768 air traffic movements in the third quarter of 2025, comprising 8,000 international and 6,768 domestic operations, reflecting VIA’s continued growth as the nation’s main gateway.
