Velana International Airport’s recently opened Terminal 1 has continued to hit milestones this week as several international carriers shifted their operations to the new facility.

On 21 September 2025, Velana Airport welcomed Beijing Capital Airlines to Terminal 1; the airport marked the occasion on its official X account as the carrier began check-in operations from the new facility.

The following day on 22 September, Batik Air and Bangkok Airways also moved their Malé operations to Terminal 1, bringing the terminal’s airline roster to seven at that point.

On 24 September, IndiGo, India’s largest carrier and a key link between the Maldives and India, began operating from Terminal 1, becoming the first Indian airline to use the new terminal and pushing the total number of operators to eight.
