Velana Airport reports positive passenger and air traffic movement for the first half of 2025

According to VIA, within the first six months of 2025, a total of 4,108,845 passengers have arrived via the airport this year, marking a 4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The Velana International Airport (VIA) reveals the passenger and air traffic movements for the first half of 2025, showcasing a successful six months for all terminals across the airport.

According to VIA, within the first six months of 2025, a total of 4,108,845 passengers have arrived via the airport this year, marking a 4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Out of the 4.1 million passengers, 579,079 were recorded at the domestic airport, 2,669,969 at the international terminal, and 859,797 were recorded at the seaplane terminal.

Additional details also reveal the highest daily passenger throughput, which marks 26,658 passengers as wheel-based as of 04 January 2025, and 7,439 as seaplane passengers as of 16 February 2025.

The air traffic movements for the first six months of the year also show an improvement, with 124,665 air traffic movements, which is a 7 percent increase compared to the same time in the previous year. Out of these movements, 17,614 were marked as international, 14,110 domestic, and 92,941 were seaplane movements.

These figures highlight VIA’s continued growth as the country’s primary aviation hub, reflecting steady demand across international, domestic, and seaplane operations. The consistent rise in both passenger numbers and air traffic movements showcases the Maldives’ strong tourism appeal, the resilience of its travel industry, and the airport’s capacity to handle increasing traffic efficiently.
