The travel and tourism industry of the Maldives has been taking their progress to another level since the lockdown due to COVID-19. With the increased efforts being put into marketing the tourism industry in the Maldives has been hitting new marks, and the evidence shows through the awards the Maldivian islands have received for different categories in 2022.
The latest win that the Maldives took home was from the World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony which was hosted on October 15, 2022, at Kenyata International Convention Center, Nairobi. During this award show which is hosted to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the brilliance across all sectors of the tourism industry, the Maldives took home awards in the Indian Ocean category such as :
- The Indian Ocean leading destination award
- The Indian Ocean’s leading beach destination award
- The Indian Ocean leading dive destination award
In addition to this, resorts, hotels and other organisations in the tourism industry also took several awards home. Some of the most noteworthy achievements include Constance Moofushi who took home two awards for the Indian Oceans leading all-inclusive resort award as well as the award for the leading dive resort. In addition to these two awards, Constance Hotels & Resorts also took home the award for the Indian Ocean leading hotel brand.
Another noteworthy achievement is the award won by Velana International Airport (VIA) for the Indian Ocean leading Airport. VIA has been achieving several development milestones in 2022 with the opening of the brand new runway as well as the new seaplane terminal ‘Noovilu’. In addition to this, JA Manafaru won the Indian Oceans leading honeymoon resort and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi for the Indian Oceans luxury island resort.
Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation also took home an award for being the leading Tourism Board in the Indian Ocean, which is an accomplishment considering all the marketing efforts that the corporation has put into marketing the Maldivian tourism industry in 2022.
