Meemu Atoll Muli Airport set to operate in 2025

The Regional Airports Company Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen has announced that all the work on Meemu atoll Muli Airport has now been completed. This news comes after the airport development was handed over to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) around three years ago in a move to provide better connectivity for the citizens as well as travellers seeking to explore the destination.

The project was handed over to MTCC during the administration led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih with a budget of MVR 212 million. During the handover, the project aimed to develop a runway which was 1200 meters long in addition to a terminal building and other necessary facilities for a proper functioning airport. While the development project was set to be completed sooner, the project faced major issues maily revolving around budget restraints which delayed the process. With this, the current administration led by Presidet Dr Mohamed Muizzu took over the project , now announcing its completion. According to the Regional Airports Company, the target is to begin operations at the airport in March of 2025. 

In addition to alsmot all the work being completed for the development of the airport, Managing Director Mubeen also said that an order has been placed to procure firetucks which are necessary for the airport. With test flights estimated to be scheduled for March 1, 2025, the region is set to see new developments for both its citizens as well as travellers.
