Maldivian has introduced enhanced air services to strengthen connectivity across the southern atolls of the Maldives, in line with Government efforts led by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation to improve regional air connectivity, supporting improved regional movement and more reliable travel for communities, essential journeys and inter-island access within the southern region.

The enhanced services strengthen connectivity across the southern atolls, improving access within Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu and Fuvahmulah, while reinforcing Gan in Addu as an air transport and connectivity hub linking the southern region. For local communities, the improved air services will provide more predictable and reliable travel between islands in the southern atolls, supporting everyday travel needs such as work, education and essential personal journeys.

Improved connectivity will also support medical-related travel via Gan and onward connections, while reducing reliance on long or weather-dependent sea journeys. The strengthened network will also support tourist movement within the southern region, enabling tourists arriving via Gan to travel more easily between island destinations. Improved inter-island access is expected to support resorts, guesthouses and local tourism operators by facilitating smoother transfers and more flexible travel across the southern atolls.

As part of this enhancement, Maldivian will operate services using Twin Otter aircraft across key southern routes, strengthening air links between Gan (GAN), Fuvahmulah (FVM), Kaadedhdhoo (KDM) and Kooddoo (GKK), and improving accessibility for both locals and tourists.

Bookings for the services open from 22 January 2026, with travel commencing from 01 February 2026. This enhancement reflects Maldivian’s ongoing efforts to respond to evolving travel needs and interests, ensuring its network continues to serve passengers across a wide range of travel purposes, while aligning domestic operations with passenger demand and reliable connectivity across the Maldives
