Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is bringing a much-needed upgrade to its ticket booking system by removing the requirement to upload or present ID cards or passport copies at the time of booking or purchasing tickets. This change, which will start taking place from 01 August 2025, will make the booking process simplified and more convenient for passengers.

According to Maldivian, this change has been brought about as part of the airline's ongoing efforts to make air travel more efficient and customer-friendly. While passengers will no longer be required to upload an ID copy during the booking process, passengers are still required to provide identification details that exactly match their travel documents when making a booking. The airline stated that tickets will be issued based on the provided name and associated information.

With the introduction of the feature, Maldivian has also stated that any mismatches or errors in names can be corrected free of charge within 24 hours through Maldivian's ticketing office at [email protected], or calling the 24/7 Call Centre at 1671. Additionally, passengers must still present valid identification during check-in, security checks, and boarding. For international travel, a passport remains mandatory.

The update aligns with Maldivian’s broader strategy to enhance the overall customer journey, while maintaining security and operational standards.
