A Maldivian Airlines flight had to make an emergency return to Velana International Airport after experiencing engine trouble shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred on an international flight which departed to Trivandrum from Velana International Airport, causing significant concern among passengers. The aircraft's pilots, adhering to safety protocols, decided to turn back to ensure the safety of everyone on board. Although there was news spreading that the engine of flight Q2700 caught on fire, Island Aviation’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas dismissed the rumours. It appears that the flight was fortunately able to return back safely to Velana International Airport with no reports of injuries to its passengers.

According to Iyas, the technical issue was identified quickly, and the pilots’ swift decision to return to the airport averted any potential danger. The airline has launched a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the engine malfunction and to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The airline also made announcements across its social media platforms, ensuring that passengers on the Maldivian flight from Velana International Airport to Trivandrum will be re-accommodated for the missed trip and that the Maldivian team will be getting in touch with passengers in order to facilitate this. Additionally,  Iyas also reassured travellers that international flight schedules would continue as planned despite the aircraft undergoing repairs.

Although there is bound to be some rescheduling, Iyas has announced that the airline will be using its ATR aircraft in order to accommodate its passengers flying to India. In addition to this, Maldivian is also working together with Indian carrier IndiGo in order to ensure that passengers do not face any major delays.
