The Maldives has been honored with the prestigious Best Beach Destination Award at the World Tourism Awards in Brussels, Belgium on 20th October 2025. The accolade, presented during the Global Tourism Forum Annual Meeting 2025, celebrates the nation’s unparalleled natural beauty and its appeal as a leading idyllic beach destination.
His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan, Former President and Special Envoy of the President, accepted the award on behalf of His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. In his address, he emphasized that the Maldives’ pathway to resilience and regeneration, goes hand in hand with climate action, and the preservation of our natural environment. He also urged global leaders to recognise tourism not merely as a measure of arrivals or profits, but as a transformative force for regeneration, inclusion, and peace.
The award serves as a testament to the Maldives’ sustained efforts in promoting high-end, responsible tourism and protecting its fragile ecosystems, which continue to attract steady growth in international arrivals.
