With the country aiming for 2.5 million arrivals by the end of 2025, the statistics as of 17 May 2025 show arrivals at 912,109 — a promising number before the first half of the year is over.

Although the numbers continue to fluctuate within May, compared to the same period in 2023 and 2024, the arrivals are higher – indicating another successful year for the tourism industry.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment’s statistics, a big percentage of the arrivals chose to stay at resorts, with a reasonable percentage of guests choosing guest houses, followed by hotel stays, and safari vessels.

When it comes to the top 10 markets, as of May 2025, the leading market for the Maldives continues to be China with 11.5 percent market share, closely followed by Russia with 10.8 percent market share and the U.K. with 10.3 percent market share. Italy, Germany, India, France, U.S.A, Switzerland, and Australia also marked spots as the top ten arrival markets for the Maldies with varying market shares for each country.

The statistics further show that 2025 has shown an increased number of arrivals from January to April this year, compared to 2023 and 2024.
