MACL welcomes three new airlines to Terminal 1 of the airport
The airport now marks 25 airlines operating from the new terminal at Velana Airport.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) welcomes three new airlines to Terminal 1 of the airport, marking 25 airlines now operating from the brand new terminal at the airport.
On 15 November 2025, MACL announced that Australian Airlines had commenced operations from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport. This was the 23rd airline to begin operations at Terminal 1 as we continue transitioning airlines to the new terminal.
Just two days later, on 17 November 2025, the airport welcomed AirAsia and Thai AirAsia to the terminal with a ceremonial water salute.
On 20 November 2025, the airport welcomed yet another airline, a leading German leisure carrier based in Frankfurt, to Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport. The airline is the first German carrier to operate from the new terminal.
